ReplyDeleteI was shocked to see that 95% of rapes on a college campus are not reported because the victims feel like the issue won't be addressed. This is a huge issue with the school system and the government if victims feel this way, which is also a tragedy.

ReplyDeleteThis made me think of the way administrators handled bullying in their schools. Many administrators don't do anything big or encourage the students to do so because they don't want to harm the reputation of the school.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this article because it was able to put into words what I could not during the discussion yesterday. The author writes, "Sexual assault is not a function of alcohol abuse. It is widespread and clearly it’s a function of power and entitlement." This is the point I would have liked to get across yesterday. Because of men's still prevalent power in our society, women are still made to feel that they are unsafe, and have to be defensive against being raped.

ReplyDeleteThis article went into great detail about the case at Notre Dame with Lizzy Seeberg. It was interesting not only because she was from a suburb in Illinois like us, but because what was done to her was considered "not a big deal" by one of her friends. Sexual assault is a big deal no matter on what scale. It was heartbreaking to know that sexual assault and/or rape are taken lightheartedly.

In the midst of the Manti Te-o hoax that everybody focused on, there was a case of sexual assault that I hadn't even been aware of. This article shed light on that.
